It’s no secret that the 1960s were a bit strange, a time when people pushed the boundaries and were looking forward to the future. Thus, strange, unwearable fashion emerged, and sunglasses and glasses weren’t exempt from the trend.
The 1960s were dominated by strong black and white shapes and a newfound sense of futurism. Oversized bug-eye glasses became synonymous with high fashion. Jackie Kennedy Onassis was a huge fan of the bug-eye look, often seen in the supersized black frames, as was Audrey Hepburn. Its popularity and influence on women helped cement this look as chic and very 1960s.
