Stunning Historical Photos of Bergen, North Holland in the 1910s

Bergen is both a municipality and a town in the Netherlands, located in the province of North Holland. It consists of Bergen and Bergen aan Zee, a village by the sea situated 3 km away. North Sea beaches make Bergen a popular tourist destination. The seaside resort of Bergen aan Zee attracts thousands of visitors all year round. They come to enjoy its beaches, nature, and atmosphere. Bergen provides the perfect combination of beach life with culture, swimming with excursions, and nature with sightseeing for anyone who wants to enjoy both.

The ruined church in the middle of the village is one of Bergen’s most notable attractions. The church was destroyed in the 16th and 18th centuries, which means that only parts of it remain today and that only the exterior walls serve as evidence of its original size.

In the early 1900s, Bergen was home to many painters, writers and architects. Charlie Toorop is one of Bergen’s internationally renowned artists. Bergen’s excellent location at the edge of the dunes, nestled in the heart of nature, attracted many artists. This was a source of inspiration for them. The Kranenburgh Museum (Hoflaan 26, Bergen) houses their artworks.
