A knobbly knees competition (or knobbliest knees) is a parody beauty contest in which the person judged to have the most misshapen knees wins. These Competitions were popular entertainments at British holiday camps such as Butlin’s and Pontins in the pre-and post-war era. These events became synonymous with the holiday camp lifestyle.
Laurel and Hardy judged the knobbliest knees contest at Butlins’s Skegness camp in June 1947. In the 1973 British comedy-drama film The Best Pair of Legs in the Business, the conclusion relies on a character’s winning a competition for knobbly knees.
