Brigitte Bardot and Jeanne Moreau star in the adventure comedy ‘Viva Maria!’ as two women named Maria who became revolutionaries in the early 20th century. George Hamilton is featured as a revolutionary leader named Florès. The film was released in both French and an English-dubbed version.
Brigitte Bardot and Jeanne Moreau were at the height of their fame at the time of the movie, and Moreau was the intellectual and erotic muse of the best European director of that era. Bardot was the queen of cinema; her beauty was unsurpassed. By this time, both stars were working with Louis Malle, who was at some point Moreau’s lover. As a western and musical at the same time, the movie takes place during the Mexican revolution. Bardot and Moreau have on early scenes a kind of itinerant show as French striptease, a bit behaved, until they notice how the poor are suffering by the powerful and wealthy, supporting an unpopular government ruled by a bloody dictator.
