Harakiri was one of the famous French magazines of the 1960s. Georges Bernier and François Cavanna were the founders of this monthly magazine. The magazine – specifically the covers- was insane, bizarre, and still shocking even after sixty years. Hara-Kiri editions, subtitled “Journal bête et méchant” (“Stupid and nasty newspaper”), was constantly aiming at established powers, be they political parties or institutions like the Church or the State. In 1961 and 1966, the monthly magazine was temporarily banned by the French government. Have a look at some of the most bizarre covers and vote your favorites, and don’t forget to share.
