David Bowie met Angela Barnett (Angie Bowie) in April 1969, and they got married within a year. She immediately impacted him, and she was instrumental in his career. The couple had one child, Duncan Jones. After Bowie’s divorce from Angela on 8 February 1980 in Switzerland, the couple split up. Bowie received custody of their Son. Angela Bowie wrote a memoir of their turbulent marriage after the gag order of their divorce agreement ended.
Angela described their union as a marriage of convenience.
We got married so that I could work. I didn’t think it would last, and David said, before we got married, ‘I’m not really in love with you, and I thought that’s probably a good thing.
