The 1970s is considered as an era of rapid development and change in Istanbul, the population of the city increased rapidly. People from Anatolia migrated to the city to find employment in the many new factories that were built on the outskirts of the sprawling metropolis.
The streets were wide and the sidewalks were crowded and chaotic with cars and people. The Sultanahmet section of the city had much more of an Asian feel than it has today. The streets were lined with shops for everyday items, people enjoyed the pleasure of a good bargain in bazaars, buying things off discount.
The following historical photos give a glimpse of 1970s Istanbul.
